Updates November-December 2022: IBBZ Accounting

Summary:

The festive season is upon us, Christmas tree decorations are up. Secret Santa is planned, team building activities and Christmas lunches are at full swing. Oh! what’s next.

It’s been difficult few years and 2022 is no exception. Many of us experiencing confusing assimilation between home and work life, physical and mental connectivity, personal and online presence and many more areas. Cost of living crisis, increase in crime rate, changes in mortgage rates, natural disasters, and along with information overload has ongoing effect on our mental health.

Let’s take Christmas break to boost health and wellness. So instead of sharing business and tax updates with you, I thought of sharing tips for self-care (source Deakin business school)

Tips for self-care:

  1. Take your shoes off and walk barefoot in the grass. Simple yet effective, freeing your feet can help prevent insomnia, reduce inflammation, stimulate your organs, and increase endorphin levels.

  2. Spend time near water. Simply being at the beach, on a lake or river, or near any body of water frees our mind from stress and has a calming effect on our brain, similar to meditation. We also get the bonus of southern hemisphere living and the opportunity to connect with friends and family over a balmy festive season with outdoor activities.

  3. Try something new. New experiences are good for our emotional health and increases dopamine levels giving us that sweet feeling of achievement and reward. Time also becomes more memorable and by trying new activities regularly, time is marked, and greater memories are forged. You may even find a new passion or hobby, learning more about yourself in the process. If you are fortunate, you will come back with stories, new friends, and different perspectives; at worst you will have new experiences to share, confidence to step out of your comfort zone and the satisfaction of knowing you gave it a go.

  4. Practice mindfulness. You can watch this video and download the app smiling mind. Learn how to pay attention to the present moment with openness, curiosity and without judgement and reap the many rewards such as reducing worries, anxiety and distress, improving concentration and productivity, emotional regulation, and better health and sleep.

  5. Unplug from technology. Reducing or turning off notifications, setting limits on how often you access social media, and allocating specific times to check emails all help in reducing the amount of information overload and helping us smell the perpetual roses.

Have a very happy holiday season and a wonderful new year!
